Sakurajima volcano shows record-level activity

The Sakurajima volcano in southwestern Japan erupted once again on Tuesday for the 500th time already this year. They think, and it is very likely that this year with the eruptions will beat the current mark of 548 eruptions set in 2009. If the current level of activity continues, the volcano will soon mark the largest number of eruptions since records become available in 1956. All of the 500 eruptions this year were quiet small or minor ones at the Showa vent, which is about 800 meters high, and thank God no eruptions have been observed so far this year at the large Minamidake vent which is at about 1,000 meters high in elevation. All of the eruptions that have happened average out to be about 25-26 a day. That is a lot! That is scary because that could mean that there will be a very very big one soon, and that is and would be very scary to know.

At North-linked schools, kids get brainwashed

Hiroshi Nakai, minister in charge of the North Korean abductions issue, said Sunday that students who attend Pyongyang-linked schools in Japan are brainwashed with classes on “juche,” the communist state’s philosophy of self-reliance, and ideas that put the military first. Nakai also said at a meeting in Tokyo of abductees’ families that Japanese funds will be transferred to North Korean leader Kim Jong Il if these schools qualify for the new tuition waiver program for high school students. Nakai didn’t explain the grounds for his argument but remains strongly against allowing North Korea-linked schools to participate in the tuition waver program. Such schools usually have close ties with the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan, or Chongryon, which is close to the North Korean government.

Japanese Whaling

The United States is leading an effort with a whole lot of antiwhaling nations to broker an agreement that would turn whale fishing to have a limit and eventually end whale hunting by Japan, Iceland, and Norway. There was a compromised deal which was with the International Whaling Commission, and it was that for the next 10 years, they could still hunt whale but only in certain numbers, and in exchange, the whaling people or nations have agreed to stricter monitoring of their operations, including the placing of tracking devices and international monitors on all whaling ships and participation in a whale DNA registry. They sid and have wanted to get results/agreements within a few weeks, but that did not happen.

Discussion on European Plane Pilot

As of now, in Europe, there is a very big and important discussion or talk about the pilot that landed in unsafe weather and killed the president of Poland in 2008. Poland and Georgia were in a short war, and the pilot was going to lang in the capitol of Georgia, and that was the safest thing to do because the weather in other airports were bad. The air traffic controllers told him not to land in a certain airport, but the president told him to and threatened him that there would be consequences because a pilot should be brave, so he turned around from the capitol and went to the airport. While landing I believe, the plane crashed and 98 people died including the president. now he is under close investigation, but before he was rewarded with a medal for trying to keep the plane safe and for being brave. now they think that he is suffering or did from depression.

Moscow Subway Bombings

Two big explosions happened during morning rush hour at two different subway stations in central Moscow, and they both killed over 33 people on Monday, and there were also man others wounded. It happened by two women, and they were suicide bombers. The first explosion on Monday was at around 7:50 A.M. in the Lubyanka subway station, and that killed around 19 people both on the platform and on an incoming train. Many others were hurt and injured. About 40 minutes later, another explosion happened in the second car of a train at the Park Kultury station, killing at least or around 14 people, and once again wounding many others. Now, people are very scarred and worried, would you be? I know that I would. In 2003, 2004, and 2005, there were other subway terrorists attacke like this one too.

A volcano Erupts in Iceland

Many people were evacuated in Iceland because a volcano that was dormant since 1821. I was under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier. Scientists monitored a fissure in the volcano from which lava was erupting. The fissure measured about 1,640 to 3,281 feet. All of the ice will melt around it, and it will cause flooding.

5 terror suspects

5 Algerian men are being accused for collaborating and planning an attack on a store with Islamic terrorists. They also mad and was getting bomb making materials. The suspects are receiving a sixteen year sentence, for collaborating with terrorists, and some face additional charges, such as possession of tools to forge documents. Police arrested the suspects on November 23, 2005, and took from their homes stolen goods, including computers and jewelry, thousands of dollars in cash, forged documents and correspondence with a suspected Islamic militant in France. They planned to attack a department store in Spain.

A Big Storm In Europe

The storm was in Western Europe, and the hardest hit place was Paris. In other places, the sea banged up against sea walls, and the cities and places were soon turn into vast rivers and lakes of water. In this whole storm, there were about 62 people that had died and many many many more with out homes. It also left over 1 million houses without power. There were hurricane force winds, and flooding ports to make all of the matters worse. Belgium, Portugal, Spain and parts of Germany were also badly hit. This also affect travel by train and air throughout the continent. Just for emergency aid, it cost over 4 million U.S dollars. France was the worst hit, and that is where about 50 people had died. 163 Arrested After Nigerian Massacre

i63 people were just arrested on the tenth by Nigerian Government. Of the 163, only 41 will be charged with homicide, and the other 122 will be charged with rioting, arisen, and possession of firearms. More than 200 people had died near the town of Jos where last month, 150 people had died. 11 more people where killed last week along with 120 cattle stolen. It is basically a rivalry riot between Muslim, Christian, and the government. Both many Christians and Muslims are always now getting killed often.

Collapse of Minaret at Moroccan Mosque Kills 38

A four century old mosque minaret collapsed in Morocco on Friday, killing 38 people and injuring more than 70 others. The 38 deaths that I just said was said to be the least amount dead. Rescuers pulled at least 13 dead bodies out of the rubble in front of the crowd. Local civil defence commander Alaoui Ismaili said the rescue operation was slow because of the small and narrow streets in the old city medina district area where the collapsed minaret is located. The rescue crew only used man power they saaid, and that must be very hard. This sucks very much that this all had to happen, but as everyone says, that stuff happens for a reason. Even worse were all of the poor people that were hurt and killed.
